Infant formula is a specially designed food for babies who are under the age of`12 months. It is used as a substitute for mother’s milk or in addition to mother’s milk. Infant formula is prepared and designed with ingredients similar to mother’s milk. All the infant formulas use purified cow’s milk as a basic and main ingredient. Cow’s milk contains casein which is good for the baby’s health.

Protein, fat, and carbohydrate such as whey, vegetable oil, and lactose are the ingredients in all formulas. The vitamins, minerals, and other ingredients are changed according to the manufacturer. Some companies use soybean in the place of cow’s milk. These infant formulas rarely cause harmful effects and even death in infants. However, certain ingredients are understood in breast milk, all the ingredients and composition of the ingredients in breast milk is not found. Because of this only, formulas cannot replace breast milk.

When exclusive breastfeeding is impossible, these infant formulas play a major role in the development of the newborn. Some people even use cow’s milk directly which is not right since cow’s milk contain low protein and high casein. There are a lot of infant formulas available in the market. Majority of the formulas are suitable to most of the babies.  But there are certain infants with special needs. They may have lactose intolerance. For these babies, there is a specially designed infant formula called Nutramigen formula. This formula is introduced by the company named Enfamil. This formula is basically hypoallergenic which means that the formula contains very few allergens which may cause allergic reactions and intolerances.

This formula may work for babies who are colicky or allergic. It reduces the symptoms and gives relief within a short duration. The symptoms are relieved generally within 2 weeks. How does it function? Since it is not based on cow’s milk or soy protein, it is used in babies with significant lactose intolerance. This formula basically contains amino acids which is easily digestible. It can be used even after one year as a primary source of nutrition or in addition with other solid foods. There are two types of Nutramigen formula.

They are Nutramigen and Nutramigen AA. Nutramigen is a normal infant formula with very few allergens. Nutramigen AA is designed for babies with special needs since it contains amino acids. It is used in babies with multiple allergies.

These are available in both powdered form and ready-to-mix form. Nutramigen formula has a bland taste and smell and because of these infants may not like it, but it is very good for baby’s health. It is very useful in infants who suffer from gastroesophageal reflux and diarrhoea.

This formula should not be used on children with diabetes and pancreatic problems. It should also be not used in babies who lack the ability to break down amino acids. If you prefer to wean your baby from breast milk due to certain reasons, then Nutramigen formula is the best you can give your baby.
